Hey everyone, CLICK HERE to see King’s predictions.
I can’t say that I disagree with some of his predictions (though I think the Bears will be much improved, putting them in the Super Bowl might be a bit of a stretch), I like how he took a chance. He obviously loves the NFC North (as I have stated all along will be a much better division this year) and he has the Vikings losing to the Bears in the divisional round. What are your thoughts?
I WILL BE POSTING A VERY SIMILAR STYLE OF PREDICTIONS BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS…so stay tuned.

Vikings win 17-10. Favre plays in to the 3rd quarter. Favre looks a little better and timing was decent…but do you really feel like Favre won that game for us? Take away AP’s 75 yrd TD to start the game, and we are tied 10-10 with Houston in a preseason game. Yes, I’ll be the first to admit that I never look real deep in to the preseason wins and losses to gage my thoughts on a team, but from what I saw of the game, the Vikings offense still looked a little shaky. I understand that it SHOULD get better with time…(wait, I should say, it NEEDS to get better with time) and so this game really means nothing.
I’ll tell you one thing: Last night was a perfect example of why the Wildcat won’t last. Favre (and any QB for that matter) gets hung out to dry when they line up wide out. All it will take is one CB or LB to level the QB (which is fair game within 5 yrds isn’t it?) to stop that from happening again. I have to agree with McNabb that the Wildcat can easily throw off the flow of an offense. As I’ve always said, to win games, you need to have a solid running game and a vertical threat. I heard someone comment on the Wildcat saying that it is like a changeup in baseball, in that, a changeup is an out pitch but it won’t be effective if you throw it more than your fastball. This couldn’t be more accurate when it comes to the Vikings. I have no issue with throwing in some trickery on 1st and 2nd downs, but if AP isn’t running the ball 70% of the time (aka our fastball), then the Wildcat is too risky (our changeup).
Overall: I am getting a little more excited about Favre for one reason…his character. You could guys he was talking to on the sidelines enjoying his presence. This team needs guys like Jared Allen and Favre. Guys who can make jokes and keep things lose. Not only for the players sake, but for the fans’ sake. How many Vikings fans can honestly say that they don’t think Jared Allen is a great interview? All types of fans can relate to his humorous remarks and that goes a long ways.
I said this last night to someone: What if Favre comes out after week 6 or 7, after getting beat up and says, “I can’t hack it for 16 games…I’m sorry”………..? He gets his $12 million and he leaves. Now, this obviously won’t happen if we are 5-1 or something like that after 6 weeks. But what if we are 2-4 and our offense looks like bleak?
I’m not saying…but I’m just saying…

Though I’d love to say that Favre’s great performace during his Vikings debut is a sign of things to come, I won’t, because you can’t judge anything during the preseason. In fact, I will be more interested in seenig Sage play with weeks 3 and 4 of the preseason so I know we have a decent fall back guy if Favre struggles. Tjack looked good, but we all know that we can’t rely on him. Next Monday night’s game vs Houston won’t show the fans anything spectacular either. Favre will play his 4 or 5 series, but won’t do antyhing that will risk injury. It does make me nervous that Favre will be limited until week 1 @ Cleveland and I think we’ll know more about his situation then.
Until then…preseason is boring. And so is Childress.

|
NOTE: One of my sources tell me that Favre’s daugther has been registered for a dance class in Chanhassen/Chaska for a while now…further proving my point that this has been in the works for a very long time. Kudos to the Vikings players if they knew about this and kept it hush hush. If they didn’t know, Childress is a terrible coach.

Now that the dust has settled on the “Favre to the Vikings” storm that occurred this morning, I have had a chance to collect my thoughts/reactions/theories. Brett Favre got exactly what he wanted, which was to sign with the Vikings but avoid training camp. How did he do this? He (and possibly Childress as well) lied/stretched the truth about his physical condition. If you read between the lines, there are two things that I found interesting.
The first is how he always referred to his arm, age, body, etc while he contemplated coming out of retirement again. Whether it was the surgery, his body taking a beating, or what ever, he was always “on the fence” about whether to come back or not. DUUUUUHHHH!!As long as Favre says “I don’t know” he is excused from what ever he wants. I have said all along that Childress worships the ground that Favre walks on because Favre is his only chance at keeping his job as the Vikings head coach.
If Favre leads us to a 10-6 season (same as last year) and we lose in the first round of the playoffs (same as last year)…Childress probably stays. If Sage/Tjack lead us to the exact same scenario, Childress gets fired. The Wilfs would never split up Favre and Childress…never. And to top things off, did you notice the new “injury” to his rotator cuff?? I loved the “it hasn’t gotten worse, and it won’t get worse as long as they don’t have me throw 50-60 times a day”. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Now he’s not even going to practice that much. He’s basically going to watch some film here and there, then show up to games each Sunday and run the show. IS CHILDRESS GOING TO DO ANYTHING THIS YEAR?
Here is Favre’s checklist after he unretired LAST year to join the Jets:
1) Get through this year and prove I can still play so I can go to Minnesota next year. CHECK
2) Get surgery on my arm so I can play with less pain next year. CHECK
3) Get the surgery done later in the offseason so I have an excuse to NOT attend training camp. CHECK
4) Make up injuries before and during the season so I don’t have to practice as a member of the Vikings. CHECK
5) Make sure Childress knows that I have full intentions of joining the Vikings, but swear to each other that we’ll drag it along to create a media buzz and not make it so obvious that I wanted to join the Vikings since the day I left Green Bay. CHECK
Here is what I want to find out, though I know I never will: How long has this been planned out? Did the WHOLE team know about this but swear to each other that they’ll just play stupid the whole offseason? Or did only Childress (and maybe the coaching staff) know about this the whole time?
It’s pretty obvious that Childress, and probably more people, knew this was going to happen once training camp was over. There is no possible way a simple phone call to Favre YESTERDAY was enough to have Favre here, signed and on the practice field TODAY. From here on out…I don’t care what Favre or Childress say, because it is time to WIN SOME FREAKIN’ FOOTBALL GAMES.
Let me say this: I have always said that I don’t want Favre to be a Viking. Not because I’m routing against him or us, I just feel like it’s a really big investment that doesn’t guarantee us a damn thing. Last season, the Vikings were a 7 win football team that some how ended up with 10. What did he just say??? Remember BOTH Detroit games last year? The QB runs out of the end zone and gives us one game, and the refs blow a pass interference call to give us another game. Then take the Giants game and give us a LOSS if their starters play in that game. That equals 7 games…and the firing of Childress. This year, Favre and the Vikings must win at least 10 games and win two playoff games for this 12 million dollar investment to be worth it. Can that happen? Absolutely. Though our division was TERRIBLE last year, it will be better this year…meaning we’ll have to earn our division wins.
With that said, this is a year where NO NFC team is a clear cut favorite. If there was ever a year that a team can potentially beat anyone in the playoffs, it is this year. So the Vikings needs to establish themselves as a dominate force. We have the tools and everyone knows it. Childress needs to win football games due to his coaching. Not because AP runs wild. Not because our defense or special teams score a touchdown or two. Not because Favre throws 3 bombs to Berrian. I want to see Harvin wide open. Vicante wide open. Berrian wide open. Wade wide open. I will be far less critical of Childress if I see this happen. In fact, I’d even shut the website down if we make the playoffs and I’m convinced we are the team to beat. Even if we lose to a good team in the 2nd round in a hard fought battle…I’d be ok with it. But don’t stumble your way in to the playoffs and get booted by a team you should beat with ease.
Overall: I’m fine with Favre being a Viking. I don’t care who plays on our team, I want us to win. And US is anyone wearing purple. But, as a fan, Childress has lost any type of respect from me that he still had by not coming out and telling everyone that Favre is coming. Maybe the players knew (in fact, I HOPE they knew), because if they didn’t…I wouldn’t want to play for a guy like that. Yes, Favre + Sage is much better than Sage + Jackson. That’s not debatable. But to give a 40 year old, mediocre QB, 12 million dollars to win 10+ games is quite the gamble…especially if that means you could lose your job.
Message to Childress: Prove that you’re the reason the Vikings win games this year, not Favre, AP and co.

I promised myself I wouldn’t post anything about Favre until we knew FOR SURE whether he was coming or not (which could have been until the day he passes away). But it is confirmed, Brett Favre is signing with the Viknigs today. Here are some questions I have:
1) Did Childress lie to his team and fans? Or was this all part of the plan so that Favre wouldn’t have to report to training camp?
2) Did Favre get his way THIS ENTIRE TIME?
3) Are the Vikings really improving?
I have to think about this a little bit before I go indepth with my thoughts…so I will update this post and add a picture when it is finalized. All I can say for now is “FAVRE BETTER WIN 12 GAMES THIS YEAR…because that is what I’d call improvement”.

Anyone who visits this website or knows me personally knows two things:
1) I want Brad Childress fired.
2) I wanted Jay Cutler in purple more than ANYONE else.
Here is a great story on Jay Cutler at Bears camp, that Don Banks of si.com wrote today. It says exactly what I’ve been saying since Jay Cutler when to Chicago instead of the Vikings. I said CUTLER WILL MAKE THE BEARS BETTER no matter who his receivers are. Just think of who he was passing to in Denver: Marshall, Royal (rookie) and other no namers. And people over look how BAD Denver’s whole team was last year.
Jay Cutler will make Greg Olson, Devin Hester, Matt Forte and co. household names in the NFL this year. Mark my words: The Chicago Bears will be as good, if not better, than the Vikings and Packers in 2009.What makes me even more depressed…is that the Vikings could have had Cutler for much less than the Bears got him for. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Childress and his staff DECLINE the trade proposal for Cutler due to his “personality issues”??
Weird, because Brett Favre has absolutely NO personality issues………………

Boy, the title of this post is about as opposite as it gets.
First, you’ve got the announcement today that The Williams Wall will get to play this season (99% sure they will I guess, pending ANOTHER judge’s possible intervention). This is good news, no doubt, for the Vikings. Per an earlier discussion with a colleague of mine, I’d rather have Kevin and Pat Williams playing than have Brett Favre as our quarterback. You just can’t replace those guys. There aren’t 2 linemen as dominant together in the league as those guys are. And if the Viking’s defense can’t stop the run, they are average at best. Though I really like the combo of Johnson and Williams as our safeties this year, our secondary is still going to prove they can shut down the elite passing games.
Then there is Tjack. WOO HOO! (sarcasm). He’s back on the practice field from his MCL sprain. Has any quarterback that is this terrible gotten THAT much media attention in training camp for an injury like that? My goodness.
Side note: Why does everyone want Vick so bad anyway? We have one in Tjack! He has a good arm, no accuracy, runs well, wears #7…there, I just solved another Wildcat issue for the Vikings.
PS. The Wildcat formation will go away as fast as it came back. NFL defenders are too fast and strong now and are able to contain, tackle, hide blitzes, and study tape better than ever. The best combo for winning is: Power running game with a vertical threat through the air. See 1998 Vikings for proof.

Yes. We do.
As everyone knows, Brett Favre is staying retired…we think, or at least until a team needs a QB during this season.
The writing is on the wall…Favre is still in “great shape” (direct quote from friends and family).
So no matter how much Childress says the door is closed, you know he’ll be begging Favre to come play for the Vikes if Sage and Tjack aren’t getting the job done.
I still stand by my original remark:
FAVRE
WAS NOT
THE ANSWER.

People forget that Favre wasn’t guaranteed to play well. Remember 2005 (that was 4 years ago and he was only 36…not 40) when Favre threw 20 TDs and 29 INTs?? Or 1999 when he threw 22 TDs and 23 INTs?? Point being: In the past 9 seasons, Favre has had a couple really good years, some decent years and some really really bad years. Think of what these new Favre lovers would be saying if Favre lead the Vikings to an 9-7 season and a one and done playoff appearance…they’d be livid.
There are tons of different things I could write about on how I feel about the whole Favre situation, but I want to focus on TWO things: 1) Sage 2) Childress being an idiot.
Sage:
It’s no secret that Sage has been a career back up. But he also played for Miami (who has been a complete mess for years) and Houston, where he played behind David Carr, a #1 pick and FIRST EVERY PICK, with a huge contract and huge expectations. After Carr failed, it was Matt Shaub (whom the Vikings passed on) whom was ALSO A BACK UP and was given a big contract. Sage played well in most of his games when given the opportunity. But when you play for a terrible team with a terrible line, mostly playing from behind…you are going to commit turnovers…no question. Did Sage not look good vs THE VIKINGS so called “great defense” last year at the Dome? Yes. Sage started or played in 9 games 2 years ago…here are his stats:
15 TDs
12 INTs
1,684
QB rating of 84.8.
Make that a 16 game season, and you’re looking at a possible 27 TD, 21 INT, 3000 yrd season. THAT my friends, would be good enough to get the Vikings deep in to the playoffs. You could argue too that the TOs would be down slightly too being that Sage would have AP, an above average OL and a good defense behind him. Bottom line: Sage CAN produce…whether or not our lousy offense allows that is a different story.
Childress:
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…THIS GUY IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY. How can you honestly have any faith in your coach when he put every egg he had in to the Favre basket only to have it blow up on him? Is he THAT arrogant that he thought he would have no problem convincing Favre of joining the Vikings? The common idiot knows that anything Favre is not easy. Childress fails at everything. Yes, we were 10-6 and division winners last year…but Chicago, Green Bay and Detroit gave us that. Chicago was playing good football at the end of the season with KYLE ORTON as their QB. Green Bay will be better and we should have lost to Detroit TWICE last year…TWICE! Childress better figure out LOTS of things, because now that he pissed off a good chunk of Vikings fans with this Favre deal, they’ll be calling for his head early on if we get off to a slow start. Bottom line: Childress is losing the small fan base he has left. I wouldn’t be so damn negative if Childress gave me some hope…but he doesn’t…AP, Jared Allen, Kevin Williams, EJ, Winfield, Hutch…THOSE GUYS give me hope.
I think this will all be summed up perfectly when Cutler and the Bears improve and the Vikings don’t. I would bet just about anything that Childress declined the trade for Cutler with DEN and KC (which would have cost the Vikings MUCH less for Jay than Chicago gave up) because he was damn sure Favre was going to be a Viking. Favre over Cutler???
That thought right there is means for termination…

10:17am on July 29th (my prediction of when Favre’s announcement will come) is getting near. I don’t want to waste another thought on Favre until there is a decision. I just wanted to let it be known that givechildresstheboot.com knew all along that Favre’s decision will come at the last possible moment. And even though Jared Allen said HIS deadline is the 1st day of training camp, you can bet your bottom dollar that Childress will take Favre anytime…even after week 1. Can you even imagine how depressing Childress will be AFTER Favre rejects him?? Man…
